How morally sound is it for religious groups to collectively oppose intervention against unprovoked aggression

I don't think it can be defended on any moral grounds. A group that opposes intervention in cases of brutal and violent oppression is definitely supporting the injustice and should be held responsible, although I can't think of any way to bring that about except on a spiritual level. I wouldn't have anything to do with such a group.
