I wanna get my tongue pierced but im afraid of pain?

So me and my homegirl are thinking abt getting our tongues pierced someday, maybe even soon, and im afraid its gonna hurt. I heard that they don't num your tongue before piercing, how come? Could you pay extra too get your tongue pierced? Also, are there any tricks you can do with ah tongue ring? What's the step by step process too getting your tongue pierced? how long will it take too heal? All that good stuff. Ohh yeah and I was wondering, which would hurt more, ah tattoo or tongue piercing? Thanks soo much(:
