Legal consequences of seperation in marriage in India?

Sir, I am 40 years old & married for 11 years. My wife is staying apart in in-laws home for the last 9 months along with my 2 children of 11 years & 10 years. She caught me having extra marital affair of 1 year? I have heartedly repented. But she's not agreeing & making false allegations. She has even turned my kids against me. She says she will never divorce me & will always punish me. She has insulted me several times before all relatives & in anger threatens to file 498A. I dont know what to do? I pray she softens a bit & return home. what are lega consequences if she remains seperated for more time? already 9 months have ped. She & her in-law are well to do & she is in govt service.
